Let's make a Journal

I am kind of OCD when it comes to being organized so I wanted to make a journal to keep my scrappy world organized. I decided to use a 3-ring binder as it is so easy to add pages that I have printed to this type of journal. I purchased tabbed dividers just like we used in school to separate various categories. I have a tab for sketehes, ideas, shopping list (most important!), posting calendar. I also add notebook paper so that I can quickly jot things down as I think of them.
At this point I have only done the cover but I will eventually do a back as well as scrap each of the dividers. The notebook I bought has a plastic sleeve on the front and back so that I can easily slip my scrappy creation into it and have a pretty protected cover.

Here is the cover that I did using the Creative Imaginations IOD Devotion collection from the Flying Unicorn store. This is one of myd favorite collections, well yeah, it is red and black with ivory. The image I have used is a card (Anne Taintor Inc.) that I found when I was on a scrappy retreat with my best scrapping buddies in Ohio and I love the saying on her skirt, isn't that just too too funny? I picked up a few other equally amusing cards at the same time and will use those in my journal too.

I will work on the back cover next and I'll share that with you as soon as I get that completed.  Stay tuned as they say!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I really appreciate it!  I hope that some of you will make a cool  scrappy journal like this and if you do, please leave me a link so I can see yours!

Welcome to the Make It Work!! Blog Hop at the Flying Unicorn

Welcome to the Flying Unicorn Make it Work! Blog Hop. We’re so happy that you’ve joined us!  The Hop starts at the Flying Unicorn blog, so if you didn’t start there, hop on over to this link and get started so that you don’t miss anything!  I’ll see you back here in a bit!

First I want to share with you this layout that I did just for this blog hop.  The photograph is from a Life Magazine Christian Dior fashion shoot in Russia during  1949-1950.  I love the contrast of the thin model dressed in high fashion contrasted with the peasant women.  I used Kaisercraft Chanteuse and Duchess collections from the Flying Unicorn store to do this layoutPink Paislee Mistables and the small letters are Tattered Angels Rockin' Renaissance Ir-resistables.  The scallop near the bottom is Pink Paislee Mistables fabric trim misted with Cadillac Pink and Cotton Candy Glimmer Mist.  All of the beautiful buttons are from the February Flying Unicorn kit except the pink one.

I used a Dusty Attic dressform that I first painted with white Gesso and then sprayed with Glimmer Mist Old Lace. I love how it turned out, looks a bit like satin fabric. The gold chandelier is also Dusty Attic and I painted that with gold Perfect Pearls.  The largest flower is a Prima Meredith Mer and the vine is Prima retton Purity.  I a lso used Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers.

There is a reason that the Creative Team members are all featuring fashion on their blogs during this hop.  This is just a preview of the fun we are going to have in March during our Haute Couture at the Unicorn Ritz challenges!  Wait until you see the OTP project, it is so fabulous.  Hmmmm, what is haute couture, anyway?

“The term "haute couture" is French. Haute means "high" or "elegant." Couture literally means "sewing," but has come to indicate the business of designing, creating, and selling custom-made, high fashion women's clothes.
To be called a haute couture house, a business must belong to the Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture in Paris, which is regulated by the French Department of Industry.  Members must employ 15 or more people and present their collections twice a year. Each presentation must include at least 35 separate outfits for day and eveningwear." (For more information see What is Haute Couture by David Johnson. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/fashionside1.html)
I can’t wait for the March kit reveal. You are going to love it because it is the best ever!! Just to whet your appetite, here are a few sneaks, can you hardly wait to see it?

Here is sketch #6-12

And here is my interpretation.  It's a photo of my Dad taken in Vietnam, I love this picture of him, his smile is justo great!  I used the February kit from the Flying Unicorn for this layout.  Its such a versatile kit because I was  able to do both Valentine type LOs and things like this!  The March kit will go on sale March 3 at  12:01am, you are going to want to be in the store then because they go really fast!!  I also did this layout for the American Idol challenge that we have going on at Flying Unicorn, be sure to check it out!

Mojo Monday sketch - Flying Unicorn

Check out this fabulous Mojo Monday sketch posted this morning at the Flying UnicoTrn.  Give it a try and be sure to post it in the gallery and Mojo Monday thread!

Here's my take on the sketch. Its a great sketch for multiple photos.

I used the February kit for this layout and added the 12 x12  pink BasicGrey doilie over Core'dinations cardstock that came in the kit.  The other papers are all from the kit, Fabscraps and Kaisercraft.  The largest flower is a Prima from my stash, the others are from the kit. The black accents and tag are Creaqtive Imaginations Narratives cardstock stickers, also from the kit.  I used a Sizzix die to cut the leaves, "branch with leaves", it is definitely one of my favorite dies.

Thanks for visiting, I really appreciate your comments so much!

Make It Work!! Blog Hop at the Flying Unicorn

Join us for a very special Make it Work blog hop February 25th and 26th!   The blog hop starts at the Flying Unicorn blog and ends in the Flying Unicorn forums.  Each of our designers will be revealing a very fashionable project on their blog that they’ve designed just for the blog hop.   You know how we like to give fun “stuff” away, so of course, there will be RAKs awarded randomly to one lucky visitor of each blog.

If you visit each CT member’s blog, leave a comment, and become a follower, you will be entered in the grand prize drawing for a fabulous prize package assembled by The Grand Unicorn herself!

Our favorite part of the blog hop is that we’re going to preview the March kit with some sneak peeks on our creative teams’ blogs instead of in the forum.  We’re also going to tell you something about the wonderful projects we have planned for March.  Trust me; you are not going to want to miss this.  We are all over the moon excited about our March plans that we’ve been working on for a couple months now.  Don’t miss this blog hop because we’re going to be working it!

Flying Unicorn February KOM-OTP project

Included with every Flying Unicorn is an off the page project.  Each month the project differs and it is so fun to see what's in the kit!  This month the Off the Page project is a Kaisercraft word mini - DREAM.
I used Riddersholm papers for this mini and a Crafty Secrets Valentines (included in the kit) image sheet to create this mini.  I combined flowers from the kit with handmade flowers and a few flowers from my stash.

I used a heart chipping from the kit on the letter D and accented with Distress fired brick ink.  The detailing on the left is a Kaisercraft rubon included in the kit.

I stamped swirls onto the paper and heat embossed with white embossing powder to create the swirls pattern on the paper.  Those are Petaloo flowers from my stash.

Kaisercraft rubons on the left and images from the kit.

Dusty Attic chipboard vine colored with Lindys Starburst Alpind Ice Rose, flowers from my stash, image and butterflies from the kit.

Kaisercraft "Love" - it was bright pink but I used red pepper alcohol ink to change its color to match my page.   Blue flowers from the kit, red from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by, as always I love reading your comments!

Sketches: Creatively Yours - Flying Unicorn February KOM

Here's a new sketch from Sketches: Creatively Yours, its basic design is simple but lends itself to embellishing as much or as little as you like.  Well you know me, I kind went wild with it and I used the February kit from the Flying Unicorn .  I added a sheet of Fabscraps Shabby Chic paper to the kit papers, the Dusty Attic chippies & foliage and large lace, everything on the page is in the February kit.   I misted the Prima Alabaster Abbey white flowers with Pearl Glimmer mist and then lightly inked with Distress Ripe Persimmon.  I built the border at the bottom by starting with a wide piece of lace, I layered on a border strip from the Kaisercraft Sweet Nothings collection, then another piece of lace that was included in the kit and finally another Kaisercraft border strip.  I really love the layered effect.

Here's my layout:

And here's the sketch I used, I chose to use a round element rather than rectangular.  I hope you'll give this sketch a try and if you do, be sure to link it up to Sketches: Creatively Yours so that we can see your work!

Flying Unicorn February KOM Reveal!

I am SO EXCITED!!  I have been waiting for this reveal for-evah it seems like!  We are so proud of the February kit and we are so proud to announce that our February kit has coordinating  flower, paper and embelishment kit add-ons!  How cool is that?  The February kit is a beautiful blend of the Kaisercraft Sweet Nothings, Fabscraps Timeless Travel, and 7 Gypsies Venice collections enhanced with a beautiful selection of Prima, Zva and Flying Unicorn flowers.  The kit includes an eclectic blend of embellishments so typical of the Flying Unicorn kits, vintage buttons, hearts woven from grapevines,  beads, lace, chipboard, there's just so much packed into this kit.  Oh and don't forget the off the page project, a word "DREAM" mini from Kaisercraft.  Its perfect for saving your romantic dreamy moments in time or perhaps to make a special valentine for your loved one.

Here are some things I created with the kit:  First, this picture of my Aunt, Beauty, she was such a beautiful young lady and she is still today.   I used a sketch that is included with the kit to do this layout, I love how it turned out.  The large flowers are Prima Alabaster. I colored them, the tiny roses and the medium flower that I hand made with Vanilla Breeze Glimmer Mist.  The dusty purple flowers are ZVA, I love them.  The large branches are cut with Spellbinders Bella Rose die and the small ones are cut with a Sizzix die, Branch with Leaves from olive cardstock and then sprayed with Lindy's Starburst mist in Gator Gumbo Olive.  Everything on this page is from the kit except the handmade flower and the leaves.  The papers are a combination of Kaisercraft and Fabscraps.

This is my favorite project from the kit.  I used Kaisercraft, 7 Gypsies, and Creative Imaginations papers on this layout.  Everything on the layout is from the kit except the black letters and swirls.  Again I cut the leaves and glimmer misted as described above.  All the flowers are from the kit except the tiny roses, but they do come from the Flying Unicorn store.

Of course I had to scrap a page of my dearest Valentine, my husband. I love this photo taken in such warm sunlight on Prince Edward Island, summer 2009.  I combined papers from Kaisercraft, 7 Gypsies, and Fabscraps to make this layout.  The dove is fussy cut from the Sweet Nothings collection.  I painted the Fabscraps chippy with vintage white acrylic paint and then stickled it with Distress Clear Rock Candy.  The heart chippy's are covered with Kaisercraft Love Letters pp and inked with Distress Ripe Persimmon.  I  have to say that those grape vine woven hearts are some of my favorite embellies ever, they are just so cute!  Everything on this page but the little bit of lace and the 3 orange flowers are from the kit.

And finally, here is the off the page project - a Kaisercraft mini word album.  I thought it was perfect for making a Valentine mini .  Included in the kit is a sheet of vintage Valentine images perfect for minis or ATC's.  I used Riddersholm papers (not in the kit) from the store.  I will show the details of the mini in my blog post tomorrow.
