Whispers of Spring-April Flying Unicorn KOM

I love this time of year, the time when the earth seems to refresh itself with the brilliant colors of spring flowers and foliage.  I was out walking in our yard yesterday and noticed that our Japanese cherry trees are right on the verge of blossoming.  I'm hoping that today will be a pretty warm day and the buds will all pop open for there is nothing more beautiful to me than a cherry blossom tree in full bloom.

The colors of spring dance delightfully throughout the April Flying Unicorn kit with the Bo Bunny collection, C'est la Vie.  Add in the nostalgic Prima Lifetime Collection, and Studio 75's Vintage Memories, and you have a kit dressed in colorful vintage tones perfect for preserving all your memories.  The kits sell our really fast, so better grab one now, right here!

For this first layout, I chose Bo Bunny's C'est la Vie collection as it's pastel color palette was perfect for this photo of my sister in law and me taken just before she and my older brother were married.  I think this was taken the day of their wedding rehearsal.  I can't imagine why I would have otherwise had on a dress, LOL!  I added the ScrapFX title chippy, the Dusty Attic flourish chippies and the Manor House yellow pink blooms from my stash.

One of the fun things in the kit is cheesecloth and I love to tucks snippets of it into my floral clusters.

Supplies:

Patterned paper:  Bo Bunny Cest la Vie:  Base – Déjà Vu , yellow – C’est la vie, Blue stripe & purple– la Vie en Rose 7, yellow stripe - Couturiere (all from the kit)
Chipboard:  Scrapfx Memories are Made of This; Dusty Attic Flourish #8 DA 0702
Diecuts and punches: Heartfelt Creations Bella Rose; MS Wild flowers, MS Deco Fan,
Flowers:    ManorHouse yellow flowers Darling
Ink:  Prima  cold ice, blue jay, old rose, dry sand; Distress shabby shutters, tumbled glass, squeezed lemonade
Paint:      Ranger snow cap dabber

My favorite part of the Flying Unicorn kits and its what makes our kits unique, is the off the page project that is always included with the main kit!  This month the OTP features Kaisercraft's photo frame.

I decided to try out one of the great Paint Systems from Tattered Angels and chose the Precious Stone Marble system.  This was really easy to do, I just followed the directions ,imagine that, LOL!  I added Dusty Attic chippies that I've heat embossed with Stampendous Shabby White embossing enamel.

I mixed some Bo Bunny papers with Studio 75's Vintage Memories collection for this next layout - I love that the papers work so well together.  I mixed in a few flowers from my stash with the  Prima vine (colored with Lindy's Fuzy Navel Peach) that is in the Flower Add-on.  I amso added the ScrapFX title and Fabscraps Manequin chippies from my stash.

The chippies are embossed with Stampendous Aged Ivory embossing enamel.

I wanted the flowers to look more vintage so I sprayed the white Prima vine with Lindy's Fuzy Navel Peach.  The Prima canvas flower underneath is sprayed with Glimmer Mist Old Lace.

Escape Kitty has been CATNAPPED!

I'm really kinda scared here, why is Escape Kitty sitting in a cage and what is that RANSOM note?  It looks like Kitty has been catnapped!!   OH NO!  And gosh it looks like Chena  is holding Kitty for ransom.  Now why would Chena do that, Kitty is her bff, well they were bff's, but why have things changed?  OK Jen, I swear, I had nothing to do with this, Chena grabbed her boots and Deputy Dawg hat and away she ran. I thought it was kinda strange that she was stealing newspapers in the neighborhood.  I guess she was putting together a ransom note.   Hmmm, can't quite make out the note, but I can see that it says "or the cat gets it".  Eeeekkkkk, Chena what are you DOING???  Please let Kitty go home, you'll go to jail for catnapping and the FBI (Feline Bureau of Investigation) will hunt you down!

Be sure to check out Kitty's blog to learn more about this dynamic duo and maybe leave her a message.  Poor Kitty....  You know I really couldn't understand why there was cat food on the grocery list.

Stay tuned to this breaking story, no idea what's going on, but when I find out, you'll be the first to know!!

Prima Engraver at the Flying Unicorn now!

I love this collection and it is really perfect for vintage styling your layouts.  But be sure to check out the Prima thread at the Flying Unicorn, its really amazing what some of the CT has done with Engraver.  I chose a more traditional route as I really wanted to play up the masculine vintageness of this.

The pilot on the left is dh's Dad in WWII. This photo was taken in England, General Eisenhower is in the middle and the other two gentlemen are high ranking British commanders. Its is very unfortunate that we do not know the circumstances of this photo, I suspect that dh's Dad was receiving an award of some sort.

I just got several new masks so of course I had to get out the molding paste and play!  I used Tiny Circles , Crackle and Lattice.  I sprayed with Lindy's Glory of the Seas Gold.  The Flying Unicorn store is now stocking Lindy's, YIPEE!!!  I love Lindy's mists!!  That's Dusty Attic's compass rose on the upper left topped with a Tattered Angels glimmer chip.

I made the flower from Tim Holtz glassine paper and Alterations Tattered Floral die.  Then I brushed on Perfect Pearls gold powder and heat set.  Love this effect for vintage LOs.

That very cool metal adornment you see is from the Flying Unicorn's new Metal Adornments collection.  These are truely the prettiest metals on the market!!

Bo Bunny Prarie Chic and ScrapFx chippies

Have you taken a good look at the ScrapFx chippies? They are seriously wonderful, very detailed and sturdy and they are just perfect for embossing with one of my favorite product, Stampendous aged embossing powders.  On these two layouts, I've combined ScrapFx chippies with Bo Bunny's great new collection, Prairie Chic.

For this first LO I used Garden as my base paper and cut it to put the two edge patterns together and made the swirly pattern on the right side of the page.  I wanted to bring out the subtle greens in the background so I stamped some flourishes with an old Heidi Swapp foam stamp near the bottom and then liberally sprayed the page on the left with Lindy's Moonshadow mist.

The photo is of me and my big brother when I was 3 1/2 years old.  Ahhh, every little girl needs a big brother!

I am loving ScrapFx chippies and here I've used one of my favorite flourishes ever behind the photo. I embossed the chippy with Stampedous Aged Hunter Green Embossing Enamel. I love the this stuff! The birdhouse is painted with Viva Decor paints.

Supplies:

Patterned paper:  Bo Bunny Prairie Chic:  circle-Chevron 14101668,  base-Garden 14101673, license plates fussy cuts-Prarie Chic 14101667, photo mats-Stonewashed Denim 1410676,die cut border stickers-Combo Stickers 14103681 (Currently this is out of stock at the Flying Unicorn)
Letters:  Sizzix diecut  Tim Holtz Vintage Market
Chipboard:  ScrapFx flourish and birdhouse - new chippies will be added to the store any day now!
Flowers:    Petaloo Cantebury Rose Brownie, FUL Victorian Garden beige; Petaloo Canterbury Ivy leaf vines with gold
Ink:  Distress walnut stain
Embossing enamel:  Stampendous Aged Hunte
Other:  7 Gypsies journal ticket
Unknown:  Burlap,straw mesh

On this layout I was trying my hand and blending the photo into the paper in the style of our guest designer this month, Solange Marques.  After cutting my photo to fit inside the ScrapFx chippy circle,   I  painted some white gesso in the upper right corner, then I glued down the photo.  I added some molding paste and used a credit card to blend the edge of the photo into the molding paste.  I used Claudia Helmuth charcoalblack and traditional tan to stipple additional leaves on the tree, thereby extending the photo into the background. I covered the photo and then misted with Lindy's Frosted Forget me nots, stamped on some script with a Kaisercraft stamp and then added the ScrapFx chippy.

On the bottom left, I used a new Prima Lattice Stencil (6 x 6) and molding paste to create the lattice pattern.  After it dried I misted it liberally with Lindy's Edelweiss Moss Green.

I cut up a Prima Bretton Alyssa vine to layer around the large Manor House bloom.

Finally I fussy cut some banners from the paper and added to my floral cluster.

Supplies:

Patterned paper:  Bo Bunny Prairie Chic:  Base-Chevron , yellow-Stonewash Denim , Stickers Chipboard:  ScrapFxchippy
Flowers:    Prima Bretton Vine Alyssa 552640, large flower Manor House
Embossing Enamel:  Stampendous Aged Ivory
