A special Graphic 45 layout for National Autism Month & a tutorial

April is National Autism Awareness Month and so today I want to share with you a special layout of a little boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Noah, and his Autism Assistance Dog Guide, Argo. When I saw this photo of a dear friend's son, I immediately wanted to use my favorite Graphic 45 collection with this perfect photo (credit Tammy Pyette Photography) to illustrate the bond between a boy and his dog. The black dog and Noah's red shirt coordinate perfectly with the reds and blacks in the Raining Cats & Dogs collection and in my heart, there could be no better pairing than this collection with this special dog and child.

Argo is a Dog Guide trained by the Lions Foundation of Canada and given to Noah. Everyday Argo goes to "work" on the school bus with Noah and makes such a difference in his life. When on outings, Argo decreases Noah's chances of flight risk and of bolting and lessens his anxiety and stress. Argo's presence has a calming influence and enables Noah to focus better on whatever task is at hand and with Argo by his side, social and learning opportunities are easier for Noah. Many thanks to the Lions Foundation for the work they do training dog guides and providing support to families throughout Canada.

For me, a layout that I love begins with a meaningful photograph and this photo surely fits that bill. Next time you find yourself without any scrappy mojo, pick out a favorite photo and see where it takes you. That usually fixes my mojo right up!

  2. I meant to also comment that my daughter works with Autistic people; mostly children. She is a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). It takes special people to this kind of work and she has made such a difference in so many lives. Thanks for sharing this lovely creation!
