Petaloo DIY flowers!

I have two summer layouts to share with you today, both using Petaloo's awesome DIY flowers.

I used Graphic 45's Safari Adventures on this first layout to scrap photos I took at the Miami Zoo where it's always summer!  I had a blast dying my flowers to match the tropical imagery in this collection.  These flowers are so great because you can easily dye them using mists or other coloring agents.

I colored the salmon colored flowers by simply spraying them with my mist. To color the yellow largest flower, I first misted it with yellow and then I painted on a little red mist on the ends of the petals. Then I quickly blotted with a paper towel so that the color effect would be subtle.

For this flower, I gave it an all over misting with yellow, then I sprayed a little red mist on my craft mat and tipped my paintbrush in it, and painted the flower center and touched the flower tips.

I just touched these sweet little blooms with a hint of red while they were still damp from the yellow mist and blotted with a paper towel to keep the effect subtle.

Lindy's Gator Gumbo Olive
Tattered Angels Banana Pudding
Shimmerz Caribbean Sunset Spritz

First, a big thank you to Simple Stories for these bright summery papers that I used to create this family reunion layout!   I used the same technique on this layout to color the flowers. I love that so many of Petaloo's flower styles are available as DIY flowers and that picks are also available!

I've used leaf picks in this floral cluster along with textured layers and canvas dogwoods.   All of these products absorb color so well.

Oops, one little gerber daisy that was already colored slipped in here.  ☺

Graphic 45 Book of Me!

I am so excited and thrilled to be back for a 2nd design term with Graphic 45!!  It's kind of fun to be a "seasoned veteran"  now, as I well remember how nervous I was this time last year.  Our first assignment was to design a project that describes me as a designer and include a photo of me.  Well I pondered that for a while, and finally decided to use my DT photo as a start and make a book all about me.  We often scrap photos of everyone in our families and record their stories but we often leave ourselves out of the picture.

I used one of G45's new Staples Square Tag & Pocket Album for my mini.  These little books are so fun and have so many pages; it really takes a lot of the work out of making a mini.  I picked one of my "go-to" collections, Typography, because it really represents me as a designer.  It includes my favorite color palette, black, red, and cream,  it's a little sassy and its got so many great quotes that I really can relate to.

Check out my Snapguide tutorial for making the cover:

Cards and Creative Embellishments

I've made a couple of cards for you today using Graphic 45's Enchanted Forest paper collection.  First up is a Happily Ever After card with a fun, fun, fun, Creative Embellishments  cobblestone castle on the front.  I love this little castle, I just misted it with Lindy's Long John Silver Moonshadow Mist to color it.  Misting is a great way to color chipboard that has been laser etched, reason being, that the mist does not fill in the etched design and so preserves all the fine details.

I used Spellbinders A2 Bracket Borders Two to make my cuts there at the bottom.  Eh, that detail is somewhat obliterating by the ribbon and flowers but it's there and I love the bracket look.  I cut 3 different borders and layered them on top of the card base.

I also framed the Graphic 45 Ephemera card with a small rectangular frame that I heat embossed with aged taupe to give it an old world distressed look.

Creative Embellishments Supplies:

Other Supplies:
Graphic 45 Enchanted Forest 8 x 8 pad
Stampendous Aged Taupe Embossing Enamel
Lindy's Long John Silver Moonshadow Mist
Petaloo Teastained Spice Dahlias x 10 1467-108
Petaloo Mini Daisy Petites x 40 - antique peach 1839-051
Seam binding ribbon
Spellbinders A2 Bracket Borders Two

Next a card with a pull out tag and the cutest little Creative Embellishments dragon.  I just love that fella! First I misted/painted him with Dylusions White Linen.  Using a thin mist like that allows the etchings to show through the color.  Then I dabbed on Lindy's gold and red mists.

The tag is from Graphic 45's new Inspire, Create, Imagine-Kraft Tags that are so fun. The tag just slips in behind the ephemera card.
I used an oval CE frame to focus on the quote from Tolkien.  I used Prima Empress Gold mist to color it.  And finally, for some pretty color, I added Petaloo blooms!

Flying Unicorn and Creative Embellishments Card, Layout & tutorial!

The Flying Unicorn store still has Pion's For Father collection in stock and it is great for making cards and layouts for the men in your life.  Here's a  card you could use for Father's Day or any masculine occasion.  You can find the template for making this step card here.

Supplies:

Pion For Father Collection -
Shoe Factory
Cut Out Sheet
Money
Petaloo Burlap Blossoms x 10 Natural

I don't usually think of Pion papers for dog layouts but I was starring at the  collection the other day and trying to conjure up a layout.  Since nothing was working for me I rolled over to my computer and started looking at Facebook and immediately spied this photo.  Ding ding, that picture sure would look good on those Pion For Father papers I thought to myself.  So here we have Henry who owns Aimee Filimoehala posing so handsomely in the Pacific NW.  He is such a cutie!  Thanks Aimee for letting me use your photo.

Be sure to check out my build a page tutorial on Snapguide .

First thing I did was mask on some pupppy paw prints using a Creative Embellishments (CE) mask.  Then I added a heart border chippie, also from CE.  The mottled white effect was created by spraying some white mist on it.

The ivy vine from CE was first painted white and then colored with some Lindy's mist.  I dry brushed some white paint on the flowers just to make it all blend nicely.
