Creative Embellishments Garden Journal

This is the time of year when I have steal moments here and there to be creative because I am so busy with my garden.  For several years now, I have wondered, how many jars of salsa did I make last year, how many pickles etc.  So I'm working away in the kitchen and not having a clue how much of anything I might need or how much we consume in a year's time.  I need to get organized.

Idea!  What I need is a garden journal to keep up with what I'm doing.   Now I can I keep up with how much I plant and where each year along with the yield.  I have room to make notes about any problems encountered and also to note the type of plants I purchased and even when I planted them.

So I recycled an old 3 ring binder for my journal and covered it with Graphic 45's DIY paper which was perfect as it is large enough to cover a notebook without having to piece it.  I used some images from Graphic 45's Home Sweet Home collection to decorate the front of my journal but what I love most on my cover are the Creative Embellishments chipboard veggies that I painted.  I layered up the vegetables along with some Petaloo blooms and now I have pretty but useful journal to record all the goings on in my garden.

I just love the detail etching on the veggies;  look at that carrot, it looks so real to me.
I used a combination of acrylic paints and Lindy's mists to color the various vegetables.

I love the kernels that are etched on the corncob, it looks so realistic!  These pieces would be perfect for a scrapbook project about your garden or to decorate a card or tag for your gardening friends.

Inside the journal I covered the divider pages with design paper.  I kept it simple on purpose as this binder is going to get a real workout!

Seaside fun with Creative Embellishments

Creative Embellishments has the perfect chippies to embellish my layout about my recent cruise.  I love that wave border there at the bottom, uh on, I think I feel the ship rolling.  Yep, the seas were rolling a little one day and there were a few seasick people.

I love quick and easy so to  color the chippies I just used some Lindy's Tibetan Poppy Teal.  It's a gorgeous color and really goes great with these Graphic 45 Voyage Beneath the Sea papers.

I placed the focal point on the photo of me by using a circle frame.  I used embossing enamel to color that.

Kid friendly projects with Petaloo blooms!

Hi there paper friends!  Maggi here today with some kid friendly projects.  Need an activity for a birthday party for a bunch of sweet little girls?   I've got some great ideas for you.

Now I'm just a grown up kid and I still love stuffed animals and this pink poodle is my favorite!  Meet Sadie, she's modeling some of my projects for you today!

First up, a pith helmet all all jazzed up with pretty Petaloo blooms, Petaloo burlap trim, and  feathers. Graphic 45's new Safari Adventures collection was perfect for making this hat.  I cut the crown using Sillouette's 3D Garden Hat, then I designed a brim to go with it so that it would look like a pith helmet.  Here's a link to the brim.

Graphic 45 Safari Adventures collection
Feathers
Sunflower button

This hat is oh so pretty and easy to make.  You can buy straw hats like this one at Hobby Lobby in different sizes and I bet Michael's also carries them.    This is a great project for younger girls because its so easy to make.  First I added some blue burlap trim at the base of the crown and then glued on some buttons for a fun embellishment.  Then I added lots of pretty Petaloo blooms.

I tied a pretty bow for the back of the hat.

I love those berry clusters!!
Petaloo Supplies:

And here's another great idea.  These foam visors are really inexpensive and the kids can decorate the visors and then wear them home.  That makes a great party activity and favor.

I went nuts with the flowers but you can never have too many flowers you know!  I glued some Petaloo burlap trim around the outer edge and added a pretty bow to the floral cluster.

Petaloo Supplies:

Now if you've got a rainy summer day and bored kids, a hat making activity might be just what you need to keep them entertained for a while!  Give them some paper, glue, tape, ribbons and of course, lots of Petaloo flowers and see what they come up with.

Thanks for joining me today!

Tutorial for Graphic 45 Tag Album from Safari Adventures

I am so loving the new Staples tags and policy envelopes!  They are just great for making fun little minis and best of all, you can assemble the basic mini in an hour.  Then you can keep it basic or go crazy with embellishments.

Square policy envelope and mini:

My Snap guide will take you through the process of building the basic mini.  Then you can decorate your pages as you wish or follow along with the photos I've provided of each page.

My list of supplies looks really lengthy, but that is because I used all scraps to decorate my pages.  For the blank mini, you need just two square tags, 2 sheets of cardstock or design paper for the inner pages, washi tape,  and a scrap of cardstock.

Tip: Save your scraps from your larger projects and then use the scraps to piece together minis, tags and cards.  Even little pieces have a place in these smaller projects!
